Sounds In the Sanctuary: Ariel Quartet with Exquisite Encore

A near capacity crowd was thrilled by the Ariel Quartet's August 11 performance of Beethoven's Quartet in B-flat major, Op. 18, No.6 and Mendelssohn's Quartet in D major, Op. 44, No. 1.

Members of the Ariel Quartet include Jan Gruning, viola; Gershon Gerchikov, violin, Alexandra Kazovsky, viollin, Amit Even-Tov, cello. The musicians met as teenage students at the Jerusalem Academy Middle School of Music and Dance. They now live and teach in various conservatories across the United States.

An encore of Franz Schubert’s double ‘cello quintet featured Rabbi Donna Kirshbaum on cello. Her performance, dedicated to her late husband Dr. Lechaim Naggan, was passionate and precise, and enhanced the world class Ariel Quartet performance.

JFNH Executive Director Allyson Guertin was an honored concert guest.

Sounds in the Sanctuary offered this concert in partnership with Congregation Kehillath Israel and with support from Ballets Russes Arts Initiative. The performance was made possible by support from The Consulate General of Israel to New England.
