From Darkness to Light: Holocaust memorial service

Transform pain and darkness into our common resilience, vibrancy and light

Musicians Marc Abouaf, Shana Aisenberg and Rabbi Donna Kirshbaum performed

Yom Ha Shoah was especially significant this year following the attack upon Jews on October 7 and the subsequent rise in anti-Semitic violence around the world. Our members and guest clergy from local congregations gathered in solemn remembrance of those who perished in the Holocaust.

Judith Felsen and Jack Karp (who were unfortunately unable to attend at the last minute), members of the Ritual Committee, Rabbi Donna Kirshbaum assembled a heartfelt program, including poetry by Judith, and Yiddish and Hebrew songs performed by Rabbi Donna, Anna McClennen, and musicians Shana Aisenberg and Marc Abouaf.

We concluded the service by dancing together in our sanctuary to the tune of Alle Brider (“We’re All Brothers”).

The Holocaust Museum in Washington, DC, also hosted a Days of Remembrance Commemoration, featuring a speech by President Joseph Biden.

Mike Adler often attends this ceremony, but opted to stay in Bethlehem to participate in BHC’s event.
